Hi Dart,

The only way to find out if BullCharts is for you, is to thrash the demo. Try all the things that you want to do, then make up your mind. It depends on what you are looking for, but for me it is one of the best charting programs around. I like its flexibility and ease of use mainly and the ease of programming or modifying indicators.

You can move up and down the price scale. Right click on the price scale, left click Auto Scale Values (it toggles on and off) then you can drag the price scale up or down.

As for your concerns about it not being supported, I cant say, but if you email BC tech support you will find that they are very responsive and have told me that there is an update due shortly. You might email them yourself about your concerns and then let us know the latest.

While most forum users wish that BC tech support were still active in the forum (and some still think they are), they no longer read the forum as they want it to be self supporting.  Some forum members are quite knowledgeable and quite helpfull but may not visit every week so the forum can be slow at times.

Hi Dart,

I'm a professional trader and have been using Bullcharts with Metastock data for my EOD analysis for quite a while now.  It is without doubt one of the best charting programs available (and I've used a lot!) but, like all products, you need to learn how to use it.

One of the major attractions for me when I first purchased was the level of support and information given by Bullcharts staff in this forum.  Forums need a critical mass of users to make them work. It's catch 22, until such a critical mass can be achieved, someone with dedication or a vested interest needs to keep it ticking along.  With Bullcharts staff apparantly no longer posting, the forum runs a risk of simply dying which would be a shame.
I would have thought it better for Bullcharts support to have issues raised here where not only can others can benefit from the advice but the issue can be answered at Bullcharts convenience rather than a phone call which must be answered immediately.
An example is Vista.  Bullcharts are not the only company facing possible compatibility issues but at least we know where some other providers stand, does Bullcharts work with Vista? - no idea.
Please don't misuderstand me, I think Bullcharts is a great product but a return to the excellent level of communication would aid all customers.

ITT.

Hi Dart,

When looking for a charting package i trialled several and ended up buying Bullcharts mainly because of its ease of use and wide range of features. When compared with similar packages i thought the price was very reasonable.

As whether it is worth it is up to the individual. It depends how you will use it and what you will get out of it. If you only want a very basic charting package and would never use the other features or if you only have a small amount of capital and are more a long term investor you may not use it very often and it may not be worth it. For me it is definately worth it.

As Blackdog said make the most of your trial and see if it is what you want and whether you will use it.

As for support, i havnt often used support but have emailed and response has been fairly fast.

Also agree with IT-Trader, communication could be improved even a monthly newsletter to inform users what new developments etc.

Hopefully the forum will grow as it can be a very good support tool.

Cheers

Roop

Bullcharts is simply the best charting software I've ever used. It would be sad if they no longer develop it.

BullCharst is update 1-2 times a year.  We will be having a new version released soon with new features and bug fixes.

Yes we continue to support the product which can be obtained from mailto:info@bullsystems.com - info@bullsystems.com .  The Forum is for discussion among users rather than support.  We will try and participate more to allow shared knowledge more easily however for direct support try the email above.

Vista support will be included in the next version.  Microsoft have decided to not have backwards compatibility with SQL 2000 (used in 2.4.1) so we have to move to SQL 2005.

Next Version fo BullCharts

 - just some quick notes on some of the things coming up.

Bug Fixes

  • Text label would be lost when you synchronise two charts.
  • Windows did not synchronise when one window had stacked panes.
  • http://wiki/moin.cgi/BullScript - BullScript editor is able to check a script as being valid. If there is an error, the cursor will be position at the start of the syntax that is not valid.
  • The last used workspace did not save the synchronised windows status
  • Saving the Gann Angle in an Intellichart caused an error.
  • Sometimes when scrolling in a watchlist the stock symbol does not match the company name
  • Add Convert period setting (on the Advanced tab of an Indicator) to the Default for the indicator.
  • Retain the same order of windows when you open a workspace.
  • The Delete icon not active when select a plot to delete.
  • Retain the Synchronised window state when save a workspace
  • ON a weekly chart, the volume bar was displaying daily data.
  • Metastock users - when add a symbol to a watchlist the Intellichart appears in a non standard location and hence not available when scanning etc.
  •

Thanks Brendon, the update is appreciated.

    [Feature Request]

I'm sure this has been requested before but an "undo" feature would be VERY helpful.  The number of times I delete the wrong line!!

Also a copy and paste feature for trend lines would be a close second.

Finally something longer term, being able to show a "volume at price" chart can be helpful. It's not a big deal as I have other software but could be worth adding to a future version if it's not overly difficult.  I can post one if you want to see an example.

    [end]

In general though, I still remain very happy with the product and still reccommend it to anyone who'll listen and while Metastock remains on my PC I can't remember the last time I opened it!

Looking foward to the new version.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply  - I am still trying out the system and I have some comments to bounce off you guys.

I think the reporting system is excellent - market map, dividends etc. The market scan is very fast and lots of options.

However the charting I am still getting use too as i am getting around it.

It seems that the majority of users think its great and they make money from it. In the end that is the goal.

A few changes to some of the indicators and small changes such as the date not being 04/28/2007 but 28/04/2007 could at this point in my evaluation make BullCharts one of the best programs around.

I like the thought behind the way the program has been put together.

    Your comments are really appreciated.

I would really like to know how other users use BullCharts.

    Cheers

Regarding the date, this is controlled by your global setting for the computer.

Settings/Control Panel/  Regional and Language settings

    - regional options - select Australia

    Hi

I thought I give a update, I have purchased Bullcharts after using it for awhile. I think the program is great and has the ability to maybe the best charting and trading program around. I have the live data which is excellent. The weblink tools are excellent and the more I use the program the more I like it. I still use MA4 but Bullcharts is a better designed program that is designed around how a trader thinks.

I look forward to talking to other users about how to get the best out of the program and share tips and trades

    Cheers

    Brendan,
Although it may be too late, there are 2 things I have been wanting to see in BC for a few years now.

1 - We can drag scroll horizontally with left click mouse but still cannot drag scroll vertically. This would be good for studies where the tool drag points are off the chart.

2 - When putting a Fibonacci (or any indicator) on a chart it would be good to keep the text data for the indicator in view all the time instead of scrolling off screen when zooming.

    Thanks

Re the first point.  The icon at the top right of the screen called Auto cna be clicked off and you can move the chart up etc.

We can send you 3.6.6 which uses dotnet 2.0 and a new database.

Please email mailto:info@bullsystems.com - info@bullsystems.com for  an upgrade.  It is only available on CD due to the new database.  Normally the upgrade is $10.50 to cover the media and postage.  Brendon

So is there officially a new version?? Do the rest of us have to fork out the $10.50? We have all been waiting patiently.

Will the new version fix the bugs?

I ordered my CD already, can't wait for it to arrive. We've had so many free upgrades so I don't mind paying $10.5 occasionally. Bullcharts could have offered a download rather than a CD though, if they got the bandwidth.

Anyway it's good to see things moving.

    ·         Get Daily Data may miss some days

    ·         Wrong host server to connect to

    Version 3.6.4  i Significant changes

    Key Features

i Layer Manager to unclutter a chart by being able to hide/show price plots, indicators and drawing tools on a chart.

i Apply and select stocks by colour to speed up daily analysis of stocks to watch.

i Stop Loss indicators have an option to be relevant only to the selected security

i New defaults settings for line colour and thickness in indicator and new default options for drawing tools

    General

    ·         When open a saved chart file - display the file and workspace name in the program title bar

    ·         Scrolling/Slidehow when the Security Manager is minimised.

    ·         Add yearly convert option for monthly data in the Indicator Advanced Tab

    ·         Custom indicators can now display data in the future such as Expiry dates

    ·         Upgrade to Microsoft SQL 2005

    ·         Upgrade to Microsoft DotNet 2.0

    Layer Manager

A chart many become cluttered with too many indicators, line drawings and annotations.  The Layer Manager provides an option to selectively hide individual lines or groups of lines.  For example, you are able to hide all indicators as a group or one by one. The Layer Manager also gives you convenient access to the properties of the indicator or drawing tool by double clicking on the item.

Another benefit of the Layer Manager is to be able to more precisely select a line if they are too close together.

     Hide all price plots

     Hide all Indicators

     Hide all Drawing Tools

Show all plots and lines on the chart

     Show properties of selected item

     Delete the selected item

Tagging stocks by colour in watchlist and scans

By applying a tag to a row in your watchlist or scan result, BullCharts allows you to better analyze your stocks efficiently.  You are able to apply up to 6 different colours to tag groups of stocks around a common theme.  It may be based on whether the stock is short or long or to look more closely at later to buy, sell or hold.

The coloured tag method is often useful for a ‘first pass’ over stocks in a scan result list before you commit to adding them to a watchlist.

Once you have applied various coloured tags, you are able to sort the list based on Symbol, Name or Colour.  The order of the colours is customisable in the Properties for the main WatchList folder.

    Changing the default Sort Order

You are able to change the default sort order for all new watchlists. Select the WatchList main folder. Double click to view the Properties and modify the sort order.  This will apply to any new watchlists, not existing ones.

You are also able to have a particular sort order for each watchlist.  Some maybe based on colour, name or symbol.  Select the watchlist name that you wish to modify the sort order for and then double click.  Select the Sort Order tab.

    Changing the default tag colours

Similar to the sort order, the default tag colours can be changed by double clicking on the main WatchList folder and then select the Sort Order tab.  There are a maximum of 6 levels to select from and can be any colour.  The preview shows how the row will look like when not selected (black text) or selected (white text) to achieve the best colour contrast.

Selecting rows based on tag colour

If you wish to copy or create a watchlist based on the tag colour, select the row with the colour you wish to copy then press Ctrl+Shift+A.  This will highlight all rows of the same colour.  Next, right hand click on the row and select the appropriate option such as Create New WatchList, Add to WatchList, Copy, Delete or Export as examples.

Stop Loss indicator relevant to selected stock

Stop loss indicators can be set to be particular to one security rather than all securities.  Tick This indicator is relevant to this security only.

    Defaults for Indicators

    ·         Line colour

    ·         Line thickness

    ·         Visible/invisble - show hide a plot in the Style tab

    ·         Convert period – on the Advanced tab for an indicator

    Defaults for Drawing Tools

Defaults will now retain the selected Ratio Templates for Gann and Fibonnaci lines.

    Bug fixes

    ·         Text label would be lost when you synchronise two charts

    ·         Windows did not synchronise when one window had stacked panes

    ·         http://wiki/moin.cgi/BullScript - ·         Crash when the default template included Stacked panes

    ·         The last used workspace did not save the synchronised windows status

    ·         Line study did not retain the new default colour when restart BullCharts

    ·         The grid icon on the main top toolbar is disabled when select a chart -

    ·         Moving average scan problem with MA type with a space in the name - eg Time Series

    ·         Saving the Gann Angle in an IntelliCharts caused an error

    ·         Sometimes when scrolling in a watchlist the stock symbol does not match the company name

    ·         Delete wrong row in watchlist

    ·         Retain the same order of windows when you open a workspace

    ·         The Delete icon not active when select a plot to delete

    ·         Retain the Synchronised window state when save a workspace

    ·         On a weekly chart, the volume bar was displaying daily data.

    ·         Metastock users - when add a symbol to a watchlist the Intellichart appears in a non standard location and hence not available when scanning etc

    ·         The stock symbol PRN caused a problem when in a watchlist.  PRN is a Microsoft reserved word

    ·         Specified cast is not valid when a stock has no ex date eg AAO

    Version 3.5  i Significant changes

    Key Features

    i Backup and Restore options

The new version is on a CD only due to the change to the new database SQL 2005, and dotnet 2.0 etc. This needs to be installed first before we then can offer upgrades via the net later. Keep in mind we do offer free upgrade not like with Metastock etc.  The $10.50 is to cover some postage etc. Once everyone has upgraded to 3.6.6 as a base we can then go to upgrades over the net.

    Brendon,

when did this version come out?   I can't find any reference to this version on the website anywhere and how to order it?

I have been casually checking the forum and the update area of the website for the last 8 months since I reported on the Intelli-Charts problem using Metastock data; given the lack of info and progress I had actually given up on BC.

The Update section of the website still only refers to 3.4.1; it doesn't seem you are doing yourself any favours with your users??

    Dingo,

Yes you are right.  Sorry about that.

I will add in a new section for 3.6.6 so is more visible etc.  We have fixed some Metastock bugs - please see the list in this section to see if the one you need is corrected.

We have been preoccupied with the ASX and their data changes.  We do have more versions coming out as we close off the ASX.

To order it just send your details to info@bullsystems.com
