I occasionally get asked if it's possible to feed the companies found by one scan into another. For example, how scan for companies with a Gap Up, looking only in the ActVest scan results. There are a couple of ways that this can be achieved.

Note: I've just picked these two scans at random as an example.. I'm not suggesting they work will together

Approach #1 - Create combined scan

Because we're effectively looking for companies that meet the criterias of both scans, one option is to create a new scan with both sets of criteria.
  1. Right click on the first scan, eg "ActVest Rising Equities" and select Copy
  2. Rename it to "ActVest Rising Equities and Gap Up"
  3. Press OK
  4. Open the second scan. eg "Gap Up in Price".
  5. Press Ctrl+A to select all of the criteria
  6. Press the Copy button
  7. Press cancel to close that scan
  8. Open your new scan "ActVest Rising Equities and Gap Up"
  9. Press paste
  10. Press "Apply and Run"
This method is convenient because you're left with a single scan that you can run now. But there a few limitations to be aware of:
  • This will only work if every scan involved uses "Match All criteria".
  • This will not work quite right if any of the scans involved use "Show first n rows" (in the advanced tab).
These problems can be addressed with a second approach.

Approach #2 - Create a temporary WatchList
  1. Run your first scan "eg ActVest Rising"
  2. Once the scan has finished, select "Create As WatchList" from the Edit menu
  3. Open the second scan, and go to the Securities tab
  4. Select any securities on the right and remove them
  5. Locate your new WatchList on the left and add it
  6. Press Apply and Run

Gee, I am smarter than I thought.

Fixed my problem.

Now I am working on how to change "default settings"

Cheers
